 Summerize your landscape!!

May is a great time to check your sprinkler system and be sure that all is working properly so you can avoid any unwanted or expensive surprises when you return after summer vacation trips. Your landscape can get by with an ineffective water system during the winter, but one or two days over 100 degrees will bring out the problems quick!!! This is a great time to dethatch your lawn and try and get rid of that ryegrass, this will also allow water to penetrate more effectively. Aerating is also a great way to save water and deliver it more effectively to the root system. Speaking of saving water, mulch, mulch, mulch, did i mention mulch! Spreading a layer of mulch on top of the ground around gardens, roses, fruit trees, etc. will help save water and you'll be amazed at how much better your plants will look through the hot summer. Fertilize!!! Well nourished plants not only survive the heat better, they don't need as much water. Be sure to fertilize citrus and fruit trees this month!!
